BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team continued to flex its muscle on Wednesday night. The Owls blew out South Alabama, 84-59, to win their fifth straight game and improve to 6-1 on the season. The 6-1 start matches the best in FAU’s history, which came in head coach Dusty May‘s first season in 2018-19.
FAU continued its dominant home court advantage that it has built. Since the start of the 2018-19 season, the Owls are an impressive 39-9 at home. The Owls are an unblemished 4-0 in Paradise this season.
Tonight, FAU started the game with a 15-0 run after South Alabama recorded the first bucket. The Owls played lockdown defense, forcing five turnovers during that stretch in the first 10 minutes. The defense led to instant offense, and Brandon Weatherspoon knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers, with the latter giving the Owls the 13-point advantage.
The Jaguars were able to battle back and make it a 29-20 game at halftime, however it was all FAU after that. Nick Boyd recorded the first five points of the half with a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer, then Michael Forrest buried a triple off a Giancarlo Rosado assist to put FAU ahead, 41-24. FAU kept its foot on the gas pedal and did not look back, building its lead to as much as 27 by the end of the game.
