Owls Roll to 90-43 Win in Exhibition Against Barry

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic women’s basketball will now set its eyes on the 2023-24 season opener after earning a 90-43 exhibition win against the Barry University Buccaneers on Wednesday inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Owls scored five unanswered to open the contest to take the opening lead, 5-0. Both squads scored four points to a 9-4 Florida Atlantic advantage, however the Owls went on an 11-0 run to lead 20-4 at the 4:22-mark of the opening quarter. A buccaneer 3-pointer made it 20-7, however the Owls held Barry scoreless over the final 3:43 of the opening frame to take a 32-7 lead after the first.

Florida Atlantic continued their momentum into the second, outscoring Barry 5-0 through the second-quarter media timeout to extend the Owls’ lead to 30, 37-7. The Owls nearly matched the Buccaneers over the final five minutes of the first half as they would take a 46-18 lead into the half.

Out of the break, the Owls doubled up the Buccaneers on an 8-4 run to lead 54-22 at the third-quarter media timeout. The Owls held the Buccaneers scoreless over the following three minutes of clock, pushing the lead to 61-22 with 1:56 to play in the third. The Owls closed the quarter on a 6-4 run to push their advantage to 41, 67-26, with 10 minutes to play.

Florida Atlantic maintained a 42-point lead, 73-31, after battling the Buccaneers 6-5 over the opening two minutes of the fourth. The Owls then scored 11 unanswered points through the 3:12-minute mark to extend the lead to 84-31. The Owls rode their advantage over the final three minutes of play, eventually closing out the 90-43 win.

UP NEXT

The Owls will now prepare for their season opener on Nov. 9 as they travel to Macon, Georgia to kick off the 2023-24 season against the Mercer Bears. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside Hawkins Arena.
