ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team continued to put up runs in bunches on Tuesday night. The Owls dismantled UCF (3-1) 13-3 to improve to 4-0.
THE BEGINNING
The Owls were in control from the start when Armando Albert led off the top of the first with a solo home run. After Dylan Goldstein was hit by a pitch, Jackson Ross lined a double into the leftfield corner to make it 2-0. Two batters late, Spencer Rich singled Ross home.
THE TURNING POINT
FAU would go into a minor offensive drought before breaking out with seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings combined. Ross launched a two-run homer in the sixth to give the Owls a 6-2 lead at the time. They would break it open in the seventh despite only one hit in the frame. That lone hit happened to be a three-run HR by Christian Adams – his second of the year — that made it an 11-2 game. Five walks and a passed ball led to a five-run inning.
THE FINISH
Ross homered again in the eighth to complete the scoring. The Owls’ third baseman finished the night 3-for-4 with 5 RBI.
THE ARMS
- Evan Waterbor made his first career start and held the Knights to one run in four innings. He struck out five.
- C.J. Williams followed with 2.2 innings, allowing one earned run.
- Max Martzolf and Bryan Boully finished off the last two frames. Neither allowed a hit.
THE BATS
- The Owls needed just eight hits to rack up 13 runs. UCF committed four errors.
- Ross’ big night was the Owls’ third 5-RBI individual performance in four games this season.
- Albert and Ross combined to score eight of the 13 runs.
