Owls Roll Past St. Thomas, 78-60

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Owls (4-3) rolled to a 78-60 win over the St. Thomas Bobcats (5-2) on Tuesday evening at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Owls opened the contest on a 10-2 run before closing out the opening quarter 23-11 to hold a 12-point lead after the opening 10 minutes of play.

Florida Atlantic extended the lead to 15, 33-18, through the 4:39-minute mark of the second quarter after a layup from Jada Moore, however the Bobcats locked in over the final four minutes of play, producing a 15-3 run to close out the half and cut the Owls’ lead to just three at the break, 36-33.

St. Thomas scored the first basket of the third quarter, cutting the Owls’ lead to just one, 36-35, at the 8:37-mark of the third, however the Owls responded over the following eight minutes of clock, producing a 27-10, which was capped off by a Mya Perry 3-pointer and a layup from Moore to give the Owls’ an 18-point advantage heading into the final period of play.

The Owls led by as much as 24, 76-52, after a 3-pointer from Moore at the 5:17-minute mark, however a late rally from the Bobcats saw St. Thomas outscore the Owls 8-2 over the final minutes of play, but it wasn’t enough as the Owls would eventually secure the 18-point victory, 78-60.

NOTES AND TEAM STATS

  • Four Owls registered double-digit performances, with Mya Perry leading the way with 19 points in the win.
  • Perry shot an impressive 64 percent (7-of-11) from the field and 83 percent (5-of-6) from 3-point range, while also turning in a rebound and a steal.
  • Alexa ZaphJaneta Rozentale, and Jada Moore rounded out the Owls’ double-digit performers with 15, 14, and 13 points, respectively.
  • Moore tallied a team-leading eight rebounds, while also dishing out a pair of assists.
  • Devyn Scott spread out a team-best six assists, and Rozentale led the team with three steals in the win.
  • As a team, the Owls shot 43.8 percent from the field, 44 percent from 3-point range, and 78.6 percent from the line.
  • Florida Atlantic dominated in the paint, outscoring St. Thomas 34-16.
  • The Owls also outscored the Bobcats 26-8 in points off turnovers, 13-7 in fast break points, and 11-2 in second-chance points.
  • Florida Atlantic’s reserves also dominated in the win, outscoring the Bobcats bench 40-14.
  • The Owls had their best performance in the third quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 27-12, in addition to outscoring St. Thomas 23-11 in the first.
