Owls Overwhelmed by Hot-Hitting UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team fell to UCF by a final of 13-1 on Tuesday night in Orlando.

THE BEGINNING

The Owls had the bases loaded with one out in the opening frame, but a double play ball ended the threat. Brock Helverson started on the mound for FAU and set the Knights down in order in bottom of the first.
THE TURNING POINT

Helverson ran into trouble in the second inning. A leadoff bunt single from UCF’s Tom Josten sparked a big inning for the Knights.  Helverson allowed three more hits in addition to two walks before giving way to Marc DeGusipe with the bases loaded and one out. DeGusipe had Alex Freeland in a 2-2 count before the power hitting shortstop lined a double off the wall to score three. The Knights would eventually send 13 men to the plate in the inning, racking up nine runs on six hits.
THE FINISH

Except for a Dylan Goldstein solo home run in fourth, the Owls were held off the board. On the pitching side, six FAU relievers combined to hold UCF to three runs in the final six innings.
