BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Florida Atlantic baseball dropped the series finale against Western Kentucky by a 4-2 final on Sunday.
THE BEGINNING
The Hilltoppers scored first for the first time in the series when a Tristin Garcia RBI single drove in Aidan Gilroy in the bottom of the first inning. Making his first start of the season in right field, Caleb Pendleton’s throw to the plate was on target but Gilroy slid under the tag of catcher John Schroeder. WKU scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
THE TURNING POINT
The Owls got a one-out single by Jalen DeBose and then a walk by Armando Albert in the eighth but WKU eluded the threat with a double play ball off the bat of Jackson Ross.
THE FINISH
Nolan Schanuel and Dylan Goldstein put together back-to-back hits to start the ninth. A pair of RBI groundouts broke the shutout but the comeback ultimately fell short.
THE ARMS
- Nicholas Del Prado started and pitched 3.1 with one earned run allowed. He struck out four and walked one.
- Sam Drumheller entered in the fourth and got the last two outs.
- The Hilltoppers tagged Brandon Smith for two runs in the fifth before C.J. Williams took over for the final 3.1.
- Williams allowed just one hit and struck out a season-high five batters.
THE BATS
- Schanuel walked and singled to extend his reached-base streak to 36 games.
- Albert and DeBose had two hits each.
