SCOUTING FAU
The Owls are in their second year under head coach Jennifer Sullivan, who has led FAU to a 13-27 overall record over her two seasons in Boca Raton. The Owls enter Thursday’s contest with an 8-2 record this season, marking the Owls best start since the 1990-91. FAU is just coming off a trip to Chicago and Champaign that saw the Owls earn a 73-56 win against Chicago State, before falling in their second loss of the season against Illinois, 81-46.
The Owls are paced by Aniya Hubbard, Janeta Rozentale, and Alexa Zaph, who are averaging 11.8, 10.3, and 10 points per game this season, respectively. Hubbard also leads the team in steals, averaging 1.5 per contest. Rozentale leads the Owls in rebounds, averaging 7.0 per game, and blocks, registering 0.9 blocks per contest. Devyn Scott is the Owls assist leader, dishing out 2.1 assists per game this season.
As a team, the Owls lead C-USA in 3-point percentage defense (.246), defensive rebounds per game (29.4), and fewest fouls per game (15.0), second in the league in scoring defense (56.8), field goal percentage defense (.355), total rebounds per game (43.3), offensive rebounds per game (13.9), and rebounding margin (6.5), fourth in turnovers forced per game (17.7) and steals per game (8.3), and fifth in free throw attempts per game (21.5) and scoring margin (8.3).
SCOUTING NORTH TEXAS
Thursday’s contest marks North Texas’ C-USA opener and the Mean Green enter the matchup 3-7 overall. North Texas is in its eighth season under head coach Jalie Mitchell, who has amassed a 103-114 overall record throughout her time in Denton.
The Mean Green are led by Quincy Noble, who ranks second in the league in scoring, averaging 18.0 points per contest, while Jaaucklyn Moore ranks second on the team in scoring with 8.7 points per game this season. Noble also leads North Texas in steals, securing 1.6 per game. On the glass, the Mean Green are led by Tommisha Lampkin, who is averaging 8.2 rebounds per game and 1.8 blocks per contest this season, while also scoring a team third-best 8.5 points per game. Ereauna Hardaway is North Texas’ assists leader, dishing out 3.4 assists per game in 2022-23.
As a team, the Mean Green rank fourth in C-USA in blocks per game (3.2) and three point percentage defense (.269), and fifth in the league in field goal percentage defense (.402), three point attempts per game (19.6), and fewest fouls per game (17.9).
SERIES HISTORY
FAU leads the all-time series against North Texas, 10-8. The Owls also hold a 5-2 advantage for games played in Boca Raton. In the last meeting between the Owls and the Mean Green, North Texas took a 76-47 victory in Denton on Feb. 17, 2022.
