ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Track and Field Head Coach Katrina Brumfield announced the addition of new sprint coach Ciara Jarrett.
“We are thrilled to announce Ciara Jarrett our new sprints coach and are very excited to have her join our Golden Grizzlies family,” said Brumfield. “Being a former student-athlete of mine, I know the hard work ethic and determination she brings to the sport along with great energy and experience of not only competing at the Division I level, but in the Horizon League as well. She will be responsible for developing the short and long sprinters and we look forward to her helping lead our student-athletes to fast times and great memories”.
Jarrett joins the Golden Grizzlies’ staff after spending a year as the short sprints coach at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Jarrett was essential in developing, coaching and evaluating practice sessions in order to prepare athletes to perform at their highest level during competition. Jarrett’s dedicated coaching style helped guide two national qualifiers in the 60m dash as well as an outdoor 4x100m relay national qualifier.
“I’m excited to be a part of a growing program in a conference that I used to compete in a few years ago,” said Jarrett. “Being attached to a phenomenal coaching staff, with a talented group of student-athletes is the perfect opportunity for my growth as a coach. I’m excited to assist in building this program to be in the running for conference championships, preliminary and possible national appearances.”
In a previous stint as the St. Cloud State University assistant Track and Field Coach, Jarrett consistently and significantly improved student-athlete times in the 60m, 100m and 200m. She also has extensive experience with the recruiting process as well as overseeing the student-athlete holistic experience including their academic and mental well-being. In her time at St. Cloud State, Jarrett developed, implemented and coordinated Self-Care Sunday, a program designed to teach effective communication, promote positive self-image, goal setting, nutrition and healthy lifestyle and relationship choices.
Jarrett spent her collegiate years at Youngstown State University where she was a four-year letter winner on the track and field team. As a standout athlete she was awarded YSU’s 2013-14 Women’s Vindicator Student-Athlete of the Year Award and was the first athlete in YSU history to win the same event four consecutive years in a row at the Horizon League Championships in the 200m dash.
Jarrett holds a master’s degree in College Counseling & Student Development from St. Cloud State University as well as a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts – Concentrations in Social Work and Sociology from Youngstown State.
