Oakland Park honors its volunteers

The City of Oakland Park honored some of its volunteers recent a recent event. The City has a dedicated team of more than 200 volunteers who show up time and again to support the community and help provide vital services to residents. The City on Wednesday hosted a recognition award ceremony to honor volunteers from the past year.

Linda Yarrish was named 2021 Volunteer of the Year for her daily service at Bark Park and continuous efforts to keep the park clean for the enjoyment of her fellow residents and patrons. Linda is pictured above with the City’s Volunteer Program Manager, Bruce Garrison.

Alpha Hicks was named 2021 Youth Volunteer of the Year for consistently exceeding expectations and contributing more than 200 hours of service through the Leader in Training Summer Recreation Program.

The 2021 Team of the Year went to volunteers who made the City’s COVID-19 vaccination site possible, including Michelle Brown, Pat Crowley, Sandra Edwards, Tammy Fey, Gerry Fill, Linda Holevas, Matt Hoynacki, Marsha Mullings, Suzanne Southwell, Lorri Winner, Jennifer Nahas, Ana Dominguez, Matt Whiteshield, Alba Herrara, and Debbie Preston.

Starbucks was named 2021 Volunteer Business Partner of the year. Led by area manager Joshua Steier, Starbucks provided ongoing support throughout the pandemic, at food distributions, and at the volunteer appreciation drive-thru event.
