Oakland Park just celebrated its 94th Birthday. Following the Florida real estate boom and bust of the 1920s, the City was incorporated on July 1st, 1929, led by a community of farmers and ranchers who had settled in the area. Oakland Park has come a long way in the last 94 years and is gearing up for its centennial in 2029.
Oakland Park is currently in the midst of the Building Our Second Century initiative, a ten-year, bond-funded facilities plan that sixty-seven percent of voters approved in 2018 to construct and renovate several facilities, including City Park and Fire Station 9. With four groundbreakings and two ribbon cuttings in the past year alone, Oakland Park’s transformation is kicking into high gear.
Oakland Park is preparing for the Centennial. The City is creating a history book to help celebrate. If you have historical information or photos to share with us, please contact Heidi Burnett at 954-630-4510.
