OAKLAND ANNOUNCES NEW MEN’S BASKETBALL SERIES WITH OKLAHOMA STATE

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University has announced a new men’s basketball series with Oklahoma State beginning this season.

The series includes two games in Stillwater, Okla., in 2020 and 2021. The Cowboys will travel to the O’rena in 2022.

The Cowboys will host the Golden Grizzlies at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020 with future dates of the series to be determined.

OSU, the two-time National Champions, has made 28 NCAA tournament appearances and won 21 conference championships. The Cowboys have tallied six Final Four, 11 Elite Eight, and 11 Sweet 16 appearances.

December’s match-up between Oakland and OSU will be the first in program history, and the 13th time Oakland has faced a Big 12 opponent. Oakland earned its lone Big 12 win against Texas A&M, 90-58, in 2007 prior to the Aggies moving to the SEC in 2012.

Under Head Coach Greg Kampe‘s leadership, Oakland has garnered 10 power-five wins during his 36-year tenure, while also earning a win over University of Houston, a basketball power out of the American Athletic Conference, edging the Cougars on the road, 76-74 in 2011.

University of Georgia was the latest team to fall victim to the Golden Grizzlies inside the O’rena after Oakland took down the Bulldogs, 86-79 on Dec. 23, 2016. Later that same season, the Golden Grizzlies defeated Clemson, 74-69, in the opening round of the NIT.
