No. 6/7 Softball Slugs Past RV/No. 24 South Carolina To Secure Series Win

The Gators have now won five SEC series, including three against top-25 teams.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Florida offense exploded to a 15-2 five-inning victory over RV/No. 24 South Carolina on Saturday afternoon, securing the weekend series over the Gamecocks at Carolina Softball Stadium.

The Gators (39-5, 13-4 SEC) slugged four three-run home runs, including two off the bat of Jocelyn Erickson and one from each Kenleigh Cahalan and Cassidy McLellan.

Erickson recorded her fourth multi-home run game of the season and first in SEC play, going 3-for-4 with 6 RBIs and a double. The senior now has 19 home runs, tied for sixth-most in a single season in program history, and has driven in 65 runs.

Olivia Miller (6-0) picked up her second SEC win, tossing three scoreless innings, allowing four hits with a strikeout.

The series win marked Florida’s fifth SEC series win of the season and third over a top-25 team.

NOTABLES:

  *   Florida’s 15 runs against the Gamecocks were its most against an SEC team since scoring 17 versus No. 20 Georgia in Athens, Ga., on April 3, 2021
  *   The Gators’ 16 hits were their most against a conference opponent since April 4, 2015, vs. South Carolina in Gainesville
  *   Florida now has 17 run-rule victories and four in conference play
  *   Jocelyn Erickson has now hit 49 home runs as a Gator, moving into fifth all-time in career home runs in program history
     *   The senior also now 210 RBIs, moving into a tie with Charla Echols (2020-23) for fifth-most in program history
     *   All four of her hits against the Gamecocks have been for extra bases, including two home runs and two doubles
  *   Erickson’s six RBIs were the most she’s had in a single game as a Gator
     *   She set a career-best of 8 RBIs as a freshman at Oklahoma vs. Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 18, 2023
  *   Kenleigh Cahalan went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run, her 15th of the season
     *   She now has single-season career bests in home runs (15), hits (55) and RBIs (52)
     *   Saturday was her sixth three-hit game of the season
     *   The senior has recorded 15 multi-RBI and 14 multi-hit games this season
  *   Cassidy McLellan slugged a three-run home run, her ninth home run of the season and fifth in SEC play
     *   The junior is batting a team-best .800 (4-for-5) in the series with 7 RBIs and two walks
  *   Under head coach Tim Walton, Florida has now won 14 of 15 series against the Gamecocks going back to 2006
  *   As a team, the Gators have slugged 84 home runs this season, tied with 2013 for seventh-most in a single-season in program history
