TAMPA, Fla. – No. 4 North Texas defeated top-seeded Florida Atlantic in a pitchers dual during the semifinals of the American Softball Championship, taking down the Owls 1-0 at the USF Softball Stadium on Friday.
The Mean Green advance to the championship for the first time in The American, where they await the winner of No. 6 East Carolina and No. 2 South Florida tomorrow at noon ET on ESPN2.
North Texas got on the board in the fifth inning. Following a walk of Rylee Nicholson, Blayze McNemar singled to right field. A bobble on the fielding attempt allowed Nicholson to advance home to score.
Both pitchers were at their best, allowing just four combined hits in the game and allowing zero earned runs. Anneca Anderson earned the win for North Texas, improving to 14-6 on the season. She allowed just three hits in the complete game shutout.
American Pitcher of the Year Autumn Courtney fell to 23-3 in the loss, striking out seven batters and not allowing an earned run off one hit in 7.0 innings in the circle.
