No. 3 Charlotte Advances to American Men’s Soccer Final For Second Straight Year

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 3 seed Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer team defeated the No. 2 seed South Florida Bulls 1-0 in the semifinals of the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship on Thursday, November 14 in Memphis, Tennessee.

With the win, Charlotte (10-2-5) will advance to play in The American Championship final for a second straight season and will look to repeat as tournament champions. The Bulls move to 6-6-4 on the season.

The first half featured a defensive battle as just two combined shots on goal were recorded through the first 38 minutes. In the 39th minute, Charlotte’s Filip Jauk broke through, scoring off his left foot to give the 49ers the 1-0 lead heading into half.

South Florida increased their offensive pressure in the second half, recording a flurry of shots, including three on goal, but Charlotte goalkeeper Leo Stritter was there to stop any attacks. Stritter finished with four saves on the day to complete his 11th clean sheet of the season. His four saves are the second most he’s had in a match this season.

The 49ers await the winner of No. 5 FIU and No. 1 Memphis for the championship on Sunday, November 17 at 1 p.m. ET/noon CT on ESPN+.
