No. 24 Owls Set to Face Tulane on the Road

NEW ORLEANS, La– The No. 24 Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team (11-4, 1-1 AAC) continue their road trip, heading to New Orleans to take on Tulane (10-4, 1-1 AAC) on Thursday evening. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. EST and aired on ESPN2.

This will mark the first meeting as American Athletic Conference foes for the Owls and the Green Wave. The two teams have five matchups between them in their history, last playing in 2014. Tulane currently owns the series 5-0.

LAST TIME OUT
Florida Atlantic wrapped up their first week of AAC conference play with a 1-1 record. The Owls took down ECU at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on Jan. 2 by a score of 79-64, in which FAU held the opposing Pirates without a field goal for the last six-and-a-half minutes. Their second AAC game saw them coming up just short against Charlotte, 70-68, on two free throws in the final second.

Junior guard Johnell Davis put forth solid showings in both games, scoring 20 points in consecutive games for just the second time in his career. Redshirt sophomore guard Nick Boyd put forth his best game of the season against Charlotte with 19 points on 6-10 shooting.

Against ECU, junior guard Alijah Martin dropped 20 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals, junior center Vlad Goldin recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Bryan Greenlee added a season high 13 points.

  • Since the calendar turned to December, Davis is averaging 20.9 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game, and 2.1 steals per game
  • Goldin continues to lead the nation in field goal percentage, shooting 71.7% from the field
  • As a team, Florida Atlantic is 22nd in the nation in field goal percentage (49.6%) and effective field goal percentage (56.5%)
  • FAU has held opposing defenses to under 45% shooting from the field for six consecutive games
  • The Owls will look to contain an elite Green Wave offense that not only leads the AAC, but is eighth in the nation in scoring at 86.9 points per game
  • Tulane’s balanced scoring attack is led by senior forward Kevin Cross averaging 16.2 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounds per game (7.8) and assists per game (5.0)

The Owls will return to the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena to take on UAB (10-5, 2-0 AAC) on Sunday, Jan. 14, tipping off at 12 p.m. EST on ESPN+.
