No. 21 Volleyball Floods SEC Weekly Awards

Trio of Gators earn four of the five weekly recognitions.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After the No. 21 Florida volleyball team tallied two sweeps at home against Auburn on Friday, Nov. 8 and Alabama on Nov. 10, three Gators earned four of the five SEC weekly awards, as the league announced Monday.

Sophomore All-American Kennedy Martin was named SEC Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the week. Redshirt sophomore Alexis Stucky garnered Setter of the Week, while Jaela Auguste tallied her first Freshman of the Week honor.

Player of the Week & Offensive Player of the Week – Kennedy Martin
Piggybacking off of last week, Martin becomes the first Gator in program history to earn a share of the SEC Offensive Player of the Week award for four-consecutive weeks, and joins the list of just two former Florida players who were awarded SEC Offensive accolades four times in a single season: Alex Holston obtained the honor four times in 2014, while Kelly Murphy was the first to achieve four SEC Offensive Player of the Week accolades in 2010.

Martin averaged a .534 hitting percentage over Florida’s two sweeps this past week. The Fort Mill, S.C. led the Gators offensive in both home wins against Auburn and Alabama to average 6.67 points and 6.00 kills per set. She recorded a .559 hitting clip against Auburn after tallying 20 kills and only one error to set a new individual three-set high for the Gators. Martin then headlined Florida’s offense with 16 kills to record her 44th-cosecutive double-digit-kill match against Alabama, while also dropping three aces to lead the way for Florida behind the service line.

Martin has now accumulated two SEC Player of the Week and four Offensive Player of the Week awards this season. Additionally, the sophomore was named AVCA’s Division I National Player of the Week on Oct. 29.

Playing in just 70 percent of Florida’s 83 sets, Martin currently ranks second in the nation for points per set (5.94), third for kills per set (5.19) and 50th for average hitting efficiently (.368). In SEC matches alone, her 6.22 points per set and 5.47 kills per set rank No. 1, while her 0.49 aces per set sits third. Furthermore, she has recorded double-digit kills in every match played wearing the Orange and Blue (45 matches).

Setter of the Week – Alexis Stucky
Stucky captained Florida to a season-best .494 hitting percentage in the Gators sweep over the Crimson Tide. She tallied 46 assists to tie her three-set career best, while also tying her block season high after having a team-high five. The All-American also recorded four digs and two kills in the Sunday sweep.

It marks her fourth conference honor of the season and 15th of her career.

In conference play alone, Stucky is averaging 9.85 assists per set to rank seventh and is fifth in aces per set with 0.44.

Co-Freshman of the Week – Jaela Auguste
Auguste averaged 3.67 points and 3.00 kills per set with a .654 hitting percentage during Florida’s 2-0 week at home. The Spring, TX native tallied a team-high five blocks and seven kills against Auburn. She then hit .558 after finishing with 11 kills, three blocks and one dig in Florida’s sweep over Alabama.

Auguste is averaging a .405 hitting percentage to rank the highest among all Division I freshman and sit No. 17 in the nation overall. In conference play alone, she is averaging a .397 hitting clip to rank third in the SEC.

It marks the freshman’s first conference accolade of her career. Overall, it marks the fifth Freshman of the Week recognition for Florida this season. Taylor Parks has collected three of her own, while Alec Rothe earned her first on Oct. 21.
