No. 15 Owls Set to Compete in the Hall of Fame Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –  The No. 15 Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team (8-2) will travel to Springfield, Massachusetts to take on St. Bonaventure (7-2) on Saturday afternoon for the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic. Tip off will be at 4:00 p.m. and aired on ESPNU.

This marks the sixth neutral site game of the season for the Owls, who currently own a 4-1 record when playing away from the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.

LAST TIME OUTThe Owls are coming off their top shooting game of the season: making 64% of their attempts from the field in a 94-60 rout over FIU in the 54th matchup between the two teams. Shots kept falling all night for players such as junior guard Johnell Davis, who dropped a team-high 16 points on 6-9 shooting. Alijah Martin added 14 points with three makes from beyond the arc. Senior guards Bryan Greenlee and Brandon Weatherspoon scored 12 apiece. FAU held their own defensively as well, holding the Panthers to just 31%. 13 Owls saw the floor over the course of the evening, including redshirt junior guard Alejandro Ralat who made his season debut and scored on an impressive reverse layup. Redshirt forward Leo Beath added four points, his first scores as an Owl.

  • The Owls currently rank seventh in the nation in field goal percentage (51.8%), 22nd in points per game (85.4) and 29th in average margin of victory (16)
  • Junior center Vlad Goldin continues to lead the nation in field goal percentage (74.7%)
  • Martin has a team high seven straight games with double digit scoring and 18 consecutive games, dating back to last season, with a three point field goal
  • Senior guard Jalen Gaffney has tallied 13 assists in the last two games
  • Florida Atlantic has scored 90+ points five times in 10 games after doing so just six times in the previous season

UPCOMING

The Owls will have a week off from competition before their biggest challenge yet: a matchup against Arizona, the No. 1 team in the nation in Las Vegas on Saturday, Dec. 23.
