No. 14 Bulls Head to Providence for the Women’s Team Race Nationals

USF received the invite, having finished in the top-10 in all five events of the spring

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 12, 2019 –
The USF women’s sailing team heads back to Providence, R.I. for the Women’s Team Race National Invitational Saturday and Sunday.

Twelve teams are entered in the event and everyone is ranked in the top 25. No. 2 Brown, No. 5 Cornell, No. 7 MIT, No. 8 Harvard, No. 11 Boston University, No. 12 University of Rhode Island, the No. 14 Bulls, No. 16 Dartmouth, No. 18 UPenn, No. 23 Tufts and No. 24 Northeastern will be competing. USF has placed in the top-10 in all five of its events this spring.

“Because this event requires three skippers and three crews, unlike the usual two-and-two, depth of roster is rewarded,” said head coach Allison Jolly. “Ordinarily we benefit from this, but without starting skipper Delaney Brown in the rotation due to a concussion, others will need to step up.”

Nota-Bulls

  • The Bulls will send sophomores Marina Barzaghi (Saunderstown, R.I.), Katie Bornarth and Samantha Kappaz, seniors Darby Capellin (Bradenton, Fla.) and Rachel Yannelli (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) along with freshman Chloe Sweeting (Hope Town, Marsh Harbour, Bahamas).

“Conditions will be challenging, with winds forecast from the southwest on Saturday and the northwest on Sunday, both directions very shifty,” said Jolly. “We are very excited to have been invited to compete, though, and are looking forward to achieving our goal of being one of the Final Eight.”
