Round: 13 of 25 (Regular Season)
Track: Michigan International Speedway
Location: Brooklyn, Michigan
Date & Time: Saturday, June 7 | 12:00 PM ET
No. 42 J.F. Electric / Utilitra Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Matt Mills | Crew Chief: Mike Shiplett
Start: 22nd
Stage 1: 23rd
Stage 2: 23rd
Finish: 23rd
Driver Points: 19th
Owner Points: 22nd
– Key Takeaway: Matt Mills and the No. 42 team played the strategy game in Michigan and rebounded nicely before getting swept up in a crash. Mills started the 125-lap race from 22nd and experienced some overheating issues early on. Getting off sequence, the team took advantage of some late-race chaos to enter the top-10. Just as everything was looking up for Mills, however, he became involved in an incident on the backstretch which ended his race. The team was left with a 23rd-place finish in the garage.

– Matt Mills’ Post-Race Thoughts: “Man, such a tough way to finish that one.  We had a quick J.F. Electric Chevy today and I honestly thought we were going to come out of there with a really good finish. We had some overheating issues towards the start of the race, but my guys fixed that and kept us out there. Mike (Shiplett) made some good strategy calls to get us some track position. Once I saw everyone wrecking on one of the restarts, I thought, ‘hey, we’re not out of this thing yet’. Some things just didn’t go my way on the next few restarts, and I just got turned there at the end. I felt like there wasn’t much more we could have done. All of our trucks were fast today and I hate that we couldn’t get any results to show for it. Thank you to everyone at J.F. Electric, Utilitra, DQS, and Precision for supporting us. We’ll regroup over the off week and move onto Pocono.”
No. 44 Niece Equipment Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Ross Chastain | Crew Chief: Wally Rogers
Start: 26th
Stage 1: 8th
Stage 2: 6th
Finish: 26th
Driver Points: N/A
Owner Points: 16th
– Key Takeaway: Ross Chastain and the No. 44 team contended for the victory in the DQS Solutions & Staffing 250. Though he started deep in the field after qualifying 26th, Chastain quickly advanced through the running order. Thanks to the help of some fast pit stops and a great handling truck, Chastain put on a thrilling show up at the front of the pack. Despite nearly wrecking while battling for the lead, Chastain maintained control to set him up for a late-race dash. Unfortunately, his race would end abruptly after getting turned from the lead on a restart. Done for the day, Chastain finished 26th on the hauler.

– Ross Chastain’s Post-Race Thoughts: Interviewer: On the massive save in turn two. “Yeah, I let him get to my right rear to (turn) one and should have never let that happen. I just left him too much of a lane out there. And then he stalled me into (turn) one, so I ran wide open, and as he went by me, I was I was crashing. So, I’m glad he saved it, glad I saved it. It cut his left tire down, so I hate that for those guys. But yeah, I still don’t really know how I saved that.” Interviewer: Were you just a victim on the restart there? “Yeah, the push came really hard from behind. It felt like a couple trucks connected to come through the No. 15 (Tanner Gray) to me. I haven’t seen a great replay yet, but I definitely was getting pushed before the restart zone even started. I didn’t want to jump, and then I felt him get off of me, and I was like, ‘oh, darn it, I’m gonna be in the middle’, and then I got wrecked. So, yeah, I think it was just a lot of pushing and that’s what it takes to win CRAFTSMAN Truck Series races.” Interviewer: Is part of that because they haven’t raced trucks here in five years, or is this just the nature of truck racing? “No, that’s just bad-to-the-bone NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series racing. You push your lane; if my lane stays connected a little bit softer, we win the race. The No. 15 and I get to race it out. Instead, we’re split three wide and then get hooked by the top. Both lanes failed. We crashed first and they cleaned us up. No, it’s not anything about five years or anything, and that would have happened. Just pushing hard, good racing.” Interviewer: Are you good with everything that happened?“I’m great. Well, my Niece Motorsports truck was fast, so, I’m good with that. We were able to drive up through the field a couple times, and yeah, I thought Kaden (Honeycutt) and I were really competitive. So, for Team Chevy, J.F. Electric, Precision, and DQS, it’s really what we want here this weekend to keep showing that we’re strong Chevy team.”
No. 45 DQS Solutions & Staffing Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Kaden Honeycutt | Crew Chief: Phil Gould
Start: 16th
Stage 1: 5th
Stage 2: 4th
Finish: 21st
Driver Points: 7th
Owner Points: 8th
– Key Takeaway: Kaden Honeycutt and the No. 45 team demonstrated immense raw speed in Michigan, but did not earn the finish they deserved. Honeycutt qualified the highest out of the team in 16th, but gained track position early through the help of his teammates. By finishing fifth in stage one and fourth in stage two, Honeycutt bagged a total of 13 stage points on the day. Late in the going, however, he was an innocent victim of contact off turn four, which gave him a flat right front tire. Forced to pit under green, the team then suffered another flat tire, but stayed in the fight to produce the fastest lap of the race. Honeycutt had to settle for a 21st-place finish multiple laps behind.

– Kaden Honeycutt’s Post-Race Thoughts: Interviewer: Unfortunately, you had a flat tire under green. Was there any warning, you know, what caused it? “No, I actually didn’t have any smoke. When I was going underneath Jack (Wood), going to (turn) one, I was a little bit tight getting past him, and then all of a sudden, it just went down. First that happened, then we had another go down again. So, yeah, just, unfortunate. I made the decision against my crew chief to stay out whenever the back half of the field pitted when fuel became an issue. I stayed out because I looked at my mirror and there was no one coming, so I figured, ‘well, there’s no point to pit.’ And ultimately, that’s what led to me getting crashed. It’s no one else’s fault from mine, to be honest with you. I was making a lot of gains down there in the backstretch. I think I passed at least a seven trucks, me, Corey (LaJoie) and Ty (Majeski) and everyone being back in the field. I guess someone ran into Tyler (Ankrum) and just put us in the fence. Just a really unfortunate deal.

I figured our luck was going to change, but this time, I don’t really look at it as luck as much it is my call going against what the crew chief tells me. I just want to thank DQS, AutoVentive, Precision, Masked Owl Technologies, J.F. Electric, and Utilitra.”
