Cactus League Officially Begins with Dodgers-Padres on Thursday, February 22nd;
Grapefruit League to Open with Full Slate on Saturday, February 24th;
Red Sox-Rays to Play Pair of Games in Santo Domingo, D.R. on March 9th-10th
Major League Baseball today announced that 2024 Spring Training will officially begin on Thursday, February 22nd as the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres open the Cactus League season. Following four Cactus League games on Friday, February 23rd, all 30 Major League Clubs will play in Cactus and Grapefruit League games on Saturday, February 24th.
Rafael Devers and the Boston Red Sox will square off against Wander Franco and the Tampa Bay Rays in a pair of Spring Training contests at Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on March 9th-10th. The trip marks MLB’s first games in the Dominican Republic since 2020, when the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins played an exhibition game in Santo Domingo.
The international exhibition series marks the first of four visits by MLB to different countries outside the United States and Canada throughout 2024. The 2024 regular season will begin with the 2024 Seoul Opening Series, featuring the Dodgers and the Padres in South Korea’s first Major League games on Wednesday, March 20th and Thursday, March 21st. In addition, MLB will play in both Mexico City and in London for a second consecutive season, with the Houston Astros and the Colorado Rockies squaring off in Mexico on April 27th-28th, and the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies meeting at London Stadium on June 8th-9th.
A number of exhibition games at Major League ballparks will be played beginning on Sunday, March 24th through Tuesday, March 26th. Traditional Opening Day presented by Chevrolet, featuring all 30 Major League Clubs, will take place on Thursday, March 28th.
