Miles Mikolas, Sharks Hall of Famer, Named to National League All-Star Team

ST. LOUIS, MO. – With the 92nd Major League Baseball All-Star game looming, a second Nova Southeastern Shark Hall of Famer will join the festivities. Miles Mikolas has been chosen to represent the St. Louis Cardinals and the National League in Los Angeles, Ca. Mikolas is one of five Cardinals to earn All-Star recognition, joining Paul Goldschmidt, Ryan Helsley, and Commissioner’s legacy pick Albert Pujols (Nolan Arenado was chosen for the NL All-Star team, but will skip due to an injury).

This is the second time in his career that Mikolas has been selected to the All-Star team, having previously been chosen in 2018 but the right-hander passed on the opportunity because his wife, Lauren, was due to deliver twins (Madelyn and Miles).

Mikolas joins former NSU teammate and fellow Sharks Hall of Famer, J.D. Martinez in Los Angeles. Martinez, a member of the Boston Red Sox, was selected to the American League All-Star team on July 13. Mikolas and Martinez were both selected as All-Stars, as well.

In 2022, Mikolas has been one of the premier pitchers in the National League. Heading into the all-star break, he ranks fifth in the NL in earned run average (2.54), third in innings pitched (120.1), and fifth in walks/hits per innings pitched (0.96). Mikolas nearly threw a no-hitter on June 14, pitching 8 2/3 no-hit innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Miles pitched at Nova Southeastern from 2007-2009, under then head coach and current Director of Athletics and Associate Vice President for Advancement, Michael Mominey, and was inducted into the Sharks Hall of Fame in 2019. During his collegiate career, Mikolas pitched 200.2 innings, compiling a career 15-8 record in 38 appearances. Miles, as a junior in 2009, held a 7-2 record, a 2.06 ERA, and threw five complete games, leading to Daktronics and Rawlings/ABCA All-South Region accolades.

“Congratulations to Miles on his second selection as an All Star at the mid-summer classic. His hard work over the past several years has once again put him back in position to be recognized as one of the best pitchers in the game,” said Mominey. “I couldn’t be prouder of him and how he continues to represent and support our athletic program and our university in a first-class manner.”

Mikolas was drafted in 2009 by the San Diego Padres, making his Major League debut on May 5, 2012, against the Florida Marlins. He then spent time with the Texas Rangers before playing with the Yomiuri Giants in the Japanese Central League from 2015 to 2017. Mikolas joined the Cardinals in 2018, earning an All-Star nod in his first season.

The 92nd Mid-Summer Classic takes place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Ca., on Tuesday, July 19, and is available to watch on FOX beginning at 7:30 p.m.
