ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan Athletic Department and the Big Ten Conference Office jointly announced Thursday (Nov. 2) the football schedule for the 2024 season. The Wolverines will face three of the new members of the conference, hosting USC and Oregon and traveling out to Washington.
The Wolverines will open their 145th season of gridiron action with five straight home games. U-M hosts non-conference games at Michigan Stadium against Fresno State (Aug. 31), Texas (Sept. 7) and Arkansas State (Sept. 14) before starting the conference season with a pair of home affairs.
The Big Ten season begins with the initial matchup against USC as Big Ten foes. The Trojans and Wolverines will square off from Michigan Stadium on Sept. 21, marking just the second time that USC has played in Ann Arbor (20-19 U-M win in 1958). The Wolverines will wrap up their home slate with the Battle for the Little Brown Jug against Minnesota (Sept. 28) on the final weekend of September.
U-M makes its first trip West for a conference game in the Pacific Time Zone, facing Washington on Oct. 5. The Wolverines will be making their first visit to Seattle since 2001 and just their fifth all-time to face the Huskies on the road; Michigan has a 2-2 record at Washington and a 2-2 mark in Rose Bowl games.
After an open weekend, Michigan will travel to Illinois (Oct. 19) and return to Michigan Stadium for a gridiron battle with in-state rival Michigan State for the Paul Bunyan Trophy on Oct. 26.
The Wolverines will play on four of the five weekends in November, starting with a home game against Oregon (Nov. 2) before traveling to Indiana (Nov. 19). U-M will have its second open week of the season on Nov. 16 before resuming action against Northwestern (Nov. 23) at Michigan Stadium. The Maize and Blue will conclude the regular season with the annual rivalry match-up against Ohio State (Nov. 30) in Columbus.
Notes:
• The date of the Arkansas State game moves up a week from the originally rescheduled date of Sept. 21.
• With Washington moving into the Big Ten next season, the two schools have mutually agreed to cancel the 2028 game of the home-and-home series (rescheduled game from 2020 COVID season).
