MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today made eight selections on Day 2 of the 2023 MLB First-Year Player Draft. After selecting high school pitchers with their first two picks, Miami has taken nine straight collegiate athletes, including eight today (five pitchers, three outfielders, and one infielder). The Club’s first selection on Day 2 was 1B Brock Vradenburg from Michigan State University in the third round (78th overall), who was a semifinalist for both the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award and USBWA Dick Howser Trophy.
Vradenburg, 21, posted a .400 batting average with 22 doubles, 13 home runs, and 69 RBI in 55 games with the Michigan State Spartans during his junior season in 2023. The 6-foot-7 first baseman ranked 2nd in the Big Ten in batting average and 3rd with his .492 on-base percentage. The Pasadena, Calif. native became the second MSU Baseball student-athlete to earn Academic and Athletic All-American honors in the same season.
Other selections on Day 2 include LHP Emmett Olson from the University of Nebraska, RHP Andrew Lindsey from the University of Tennessee, OF Jake DeLeo from Georgia Tech, LHP Justin Storm from the University of Southern Mississippi, RHP Nick Maldonado from Vanderbilt University, OF Colby Shade from the University of Oregon, and RHP Xavier Meachem from North Carolina A&T State University.
On Day 1 of the 2023 MLB First-Year Player Draft, the Marlins selected RHP Noble Meyer with the 10th overall selection, LHP Thomas White with the 35th overall selection, and OF Kemp Alderman with the 47th overall selection.
