MIAMI MARLINS ACQUIRE RHP TYLER PHILLIPS FROM PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES IN EXCHANGE FOR CASH CONSIDERATIONS

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced that the team has acquired right-handed pitcher Tyler Phillips from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for cash considerations. Right-handed pitcher Seth Martinez has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Phillips, 27, appeared in eight games (seven starts) with Philadelphia during the 2024 season.  He made his MLB debut in relief on July 7 at Atlanta, allowing one run over 4.0 innings, striking out the first four batters faced and seven overall. He earned the win in his first MLB start on July 13 vs. the Athletics. In eight outings (seven starts) with the Phillies, he posted a 4-1 record with a 6.87 ERA (28 ER/36.2 IP), with 28 strikeouts and seven walks.

In 20 starts with Triple-A Lehigh Valley last season, he produced an 8-5 mark with a 5.08 ERA (67 earned runs in 118.2 innings pitched.  He held the opposition to 117 hits, 49 walks, and 100 strikeouts. He earned wins and tossed complete games in consecutive outings for the IronPigs on May 15 at Norfolk and May 21 at Rochester (both were 7.0-inning doubleheaders).

Selected by the Texas Rangers in the 16th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in Lumberton, N.J., he spent seven seasons within the Rangers organization before being claimed off waivers by Philadelphia on July 24, 2021.
