MIAMI – The Miami Marlins acquired RHP Louis Head from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Head pitched in 27 games (two starts) during the 2021 season and went 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA for the Rays after making his Major League debut on April 25.
A native of Houston, Texas, Head struck out 32 hitters in 35.0 Major League innings. He allowed just 21 hits, holding opponents to a .175 average against, and walked nine.
A product of Texas State University, he was selected by Cleveland in the 18th round of the 2012 MLB Draft. He has pitched in 320 games in nine Minor League seasons between Cleveland, Texas, Seattle, and Tampa Bay, going 19-19 with a 3.57 ERA and 42 saves. In 2021, Head was 0-0 with a 2.20 ERA and five saves in 26 games for Triple-A Durham.
To make room for Head on the 40-man roster, OF Brian Miller was designated for assignment.
