MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced that the team has acquired Minor League outfielder Ethan O’Donnell from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for outfielder Dane Myers.
O’Donnell, 23, appeared in 125 games with Double-A Chattanooga during the 2025 season, producing a .236/.327/.325 (100×424) offensive slash line with 22 extra-base hits (13 doubles, two triples, and seven home runs) and 56 RBI. He led the Lookouts with a career-high 54 walks while also ranking second on the team with 59 runs, 100 hits, and 20 stolen bases.
Ranked as Cincinnati’s No. 18 Prospect per MLB Pipeline, O’Donnell has posted a .259/.350/.385 (228×880) offensive slash line with 138 runs, 28 doubles, 10 triples, 21 home runs, and 117 RBI in 256 games over three seasons in the Reds’ Minor League system (2023-25). The Chicago, Ill., native has swiped 55 bases during his professional career, including a career-high 31 steals in 104 games during the 2024 season with High-A Dayton.
The University of Virginia product, who was the second Cavalier in program history to be listed on the nine-member ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team as a junior, was originally selected by Cincinnati in the sixth round (168th overall) of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft.
Myers, 29, slashed .235/.291/.326 (72×307) in a career-high 106 games with the Marlins in 2025, also setting career highs in runs (29), doubles (10), home runs (six), RBI (31), and stolen bases (18). The right-handed hitting outfielder combined for a .987 fielding pct. (3 E/226 TC) in 58 starts (68 games) in center field, 18 starts (31 games) in right field, and six starts (11 games) in left field. In 172 games over parts of three seasons with Miami (2023-25), the Columbus, Texas, native produced a .245 (115×469) batting average and a .653 OPS. Previously a two-way player at Rice University, Myers was originally selected by Detroit in the sixth round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft and later taken by Miami in the Minor League phase of the Rule 5 Draft on Dec. 7, 2022.
Miami’s 40-man roster now stands at 39.
