MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced that the club has acquired infielder Leo Jiménez from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Minor League infielder Dub Gleed and International Pool Money.
Jiménez, 24, who was recently designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays on March 25, hit .231/.310/.231 (6×26) with two runs and three RBI in 14 games during 2026 Spring Training, while also appearing in two games (0x5, 1 BB, 2 K) for Team Panama in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
The Chitre, Panama, native, saw action in 18 games with the American League pennant-winning Toronto Blue Jays in 2025. He also appeared in 19 games with Triple-A Buffalo, slashing .304/.437/.375 (17×56) with 12 runs, four doubles, four RBI, a 15.5 percent walks rate and an .812 OPS. The 5-foot-11 infielder has split defensive innings between second base and shortstop at the Major League level, totaling 44 games (36 starts) at shortstop, with a .984 fielding pct. (2 E/122 TC), and 36 games (28 starts) at second base, with a .983 fielding pct. (2 E/119 TC).
Originally signed by Toronto as an International free agent on July 2, 2017, Jiménez raised as high as the Blue Jays’ No. 5 Top Prospect entering the 2024 season per MLB Pipeline. Across 400 games in Toronto’s Minor League system, he combined for a .273 average and .782 OPS, with 202 walks compared to 275 strikeouts.
Gleed, 23, saw action at four levels during his first season in the Marlins organization in 2025 (Rookie-Level FCL Marlins, Class-A Jupiter, Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Jacksonville). In 71 combined games, he produced a .252/.391/.347 (56×222) slash line with 29 runs, 15 doubles, two home runs, and 26 RBI. The American Fork, Utah native was originally selected by Miami in the ninth round (274th overall) of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft out of UC Irvine.
In a corresponding move, RHP Garrett Acton has been designated for assignment.
Miami’s 40-man roster remains at 40.
