MIAMI MARLINS ACQUIRE C JACOB STALLINGS FROM PITTSBURGH

Stallings was named 2021 NL Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner at catcher

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today acquired C Jacob Stallings from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for RHP Zach Thompson, and minor leaguers RHP Kyle Nicolas and OF Connor Scott.

Stallings, 31, was the 2021 National League Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner at catcher. He was the only catcher in Major League Baseball without a passed ball last season (min. 500.0 innings caught). Stallings finished second in all of MLB with 21 defensive runs saved last season while throwing out 11 of 43 base-stealers in 103 starts.

A seventh-round pick by the Pirates in 2012 from the University of North Carolina, the Lawrence, Kan., native has played in parts of six Major League seasons and is a .254 career hitter with 17 home runs and 94 RBI in 249 games. Stallings set career highs in games (112), doubles (20), home runs (8) and RBI (53) in 2021 and was one of three finalists for the NL Gold Glove Award at catcher in 2020.

In 2020 and 2021, Stallings was named the Pirates Roberto Clemente Award nominee and winner of the Chuck Tanner Award (most cooperative with the media) by the Pittsburgh BBWAA.
