Miami Dolphins Activate Long Jr. off PUP

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have activated linebacker David Long Jr. off the physically unable to perform list.

Long Jr., who signed with Miami on March 17, 2023, enters his sixth NFL season. He has played in 67 career games with 43 starts. In 2023, he started 17 games with Miami, recording 110 tackles (62 solo), 1.0 sack, one pass defensed and one forced fumble. He also played four seasons with Tennessee (2019-22), appearing in 50 games with 26 starts. He’s recorded 333 career tackles (196 solo), four interceptions, 15 passes defensed and three forced fumbles. Long has also appeared in six playoff games with four starts. He originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (188th overall) by Tennessee in the 2019 NFL Draft. He played collegiately at West Virginia, where he was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2018.

Miami Dolphins Sign Tagovailoa to Contract Extension

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins have signed quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a contract extension through the 2028 season, it was announced Sunday.

Tagovailoa, a first-round selection (fifth overall) by Miami in the 2020 NFL Draft, enters his fifth season with the Dolphins. He has played in 53 games with 51 starts, completing 1,096-of-1,638 passes (66.9 pct) for 12,639 yards and 81 touchdowns along with 137 carries for 381 yards and six rushing touchdowns. He is a two-time team captain (2022-23) and holds the highest passer rating in Dolphins history (97.1).

A Pro Bowl selection in 2023, Tagovailoa became the first Dolphins player since Dan Marino in 1992 to lead the league in passing with 4,624 yards and the second to throw for more than 4,500 yards in a season. He finished fifth in passer rating (101.1), tied for fifth in passing touchdowns (29) and second in yards per attempt (8.3). He also posted a 69.3 completion percentage in 2023, the best mark in team history in a single season. Over the past two seasons, Tagovailoa has been the NFL’s highest-rated passer on third down. Last September, he became the first Miami player in 30 years to win AFC Offensive Player of the Month.

In 2022, Tagovailoa became the youngest NFL quarterback to lead the league in passer rating (105.5) since Marino in 1984. He also led the NFL in red zone passer rating (112.2) and third-down passer rating (130.1) in 2022. Tagovailoa won the Don Shula Leadership Award and was named the Polynesian Offensive Player of the Year in 2022. He played collegiately at the University of Alabama.

Miami Dolphins Make Roster Moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed linebacker Curtis Bolton and waived quarterback Gavin Hardison.

Bolton has played in 28 career games, recording one defensive stop, 15 special teams tackles and one punt return. He spent two seasons with Las Vegas (2022-23) and one with Detroit (2021). In 2023, he appeared in 13 games with the Raiders, recording one defensive stop, seven special teams tackles and a punt return. Bolton played 10 games in 2022 with Las Vegas and five with Detroit in 2021. He also spent time with Indianapolis (2021), San Francisco (2021) and Houston (2020) on their practice squads. Bolton entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Green Bay on May 3, 2019. He played collegiately at Oklahoma.

Hardison signed with Miami as an undrafted college free agent on May 10, 2024. He spent five seasons at UTEP (2019-23), where he completed 570-of-1,061 passes (53.7 pct.) for 7,963 yards and 40 touchdowns. His 7,963 yards are the third-most in UTEP history, while the 40 touchdowns rank fourth most in school history. Hardison was named honorable mention All-Conference USA in 2021. Prior to UTEP, Hardison played five games at New Mexico Military Institute in 2018, where he threw for 408 yards and four touchdowns and added a score on the ground.
