Miami-Dade County District 12 Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department Director Maria I. Nardi and staff, and members of the community broke ground on the renovation and expansion of North Trail Park and Community Center located at 780 NW 127 Avenue, Miami 33182, to provide needed services and programs for neighborhood residents, with a focus on older adults. As part of the groundbreaking ceremony, renderings were unveiled for a future splashpad and nature-based playground at the park.
“This is a landmark revitalization project for North Trail Park,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Accessible park spaces are key to building a strong and healthy community – where our residents, regardless of age can enjoy exercise and enhance their mental and physical well-being.”
“I am very excited that North Trail Park and Community Center is breaking ground on these enhancements,” said Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz. “Given the active senior population in District 12, these much-needed improvements will provide added recreational and social opportunities to enhance our seniors’ quality of life.”
A significant improvement and expansion of the existing 6,742 square foot Community Center will include new roofing, doors, windows, flooring, paint, lighting, and other aesthetic components, as well as new plumbing fixtures and drinking fountains. Approximately 1,644 square feet of space will be added to the center to accommodate a new main entrance hall-reception area and a new multi-purpose room with the capability to be divided into two separate community meeting rooms.
The park will also receive a new 880 square foot restroom building with a drinking fountain and storage spaces. There will also be new landscaping, two newly designated accessible parking spaces and six new bicycle racks.
“We look forward to beginning work on these improvements and other planned development at North Trail Park,” said Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department Director Maria I. Nardi. “This is part of the implementation of the Parks and Open Space Master Plan, a community-inspired vision to build a healthier, more vibrant community, and enhance quality of life for everyone, through parks.
