12/10/2024 | Men’s Basketball | Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic’s men’s basketball team took down Jacksonville on Tuesday evening in a 85-63 victory, winning the third annual Boca Raton Megabowl. The Owls (6-5) won their second straight in convincing fashion, relying on finding buckets inside the paint. Five Owls scored in double figures, four of them being frontcourt players. FIRST HALF On FAU’s very first offensive possession, Matas Vokietaitis opened scoring, laying in a lob pass from junior guard Leland Walker to set the tone for the half. The freshman center led the team with 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting in the opening frame. Florida Atlantic opened a lead that was sparked by a 13-0 run, culminating in back-to-back scores from sophomore forward Kaleb Glenn. The Owls entered the locker room leading 37-31. SECOND HALF Thanks to a 10-0 run early in the half, the Owls built a double-digit lead that extended all the way to 25 points. FAU was reward for their frequent attacks the hoop with four three-point play opportunities. Redshirt junior forward Tre Carroll, the reigning American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, kept up momentum from his previous outing, contributing to 10 straight Owl points, eight scoring and an assist in a second half that was all Florida Atlantic, outscoring the Dolphins 48-32. He also notched a career-high four blocks, most by an Owl this season Glenn added 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench For the second game in a row, sophomore guard Niccolo Moretti nabbed three steals The Owls won the rebound battle 50-36 Florida Atlantic outscored the Dolphins 42-10 in the paint As a team, the Owls tied their season-high in blocks with six UP NEXT Florida Atlantic will conclude their two-game homestand with a matchup against Texas State (7-3), their final home game of 2024.
