BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic’s men’s basketball team recorded their fourth straight double-digit victory in American Athletic Conference play, defeating Charlotte by a score of 87-75.
Taking the floor for a late-night Monday matchup, the Owls (14-10, 7-4 AAC) took control late in the first half and never looked back against the 49ers (9-17, 2-11 AAC). The team had a strong shooting night, converting over 50% of their shot attempts for the fourth consecutive outing, while going 48% from downtown and 85% from the free throw line. Sophomore forward Kaleb Glenn led the way with 18 points on 6-for-8 shooting.
FIRST HALF
Both teams traded buckets early, each shooting 50% from the field and no team with a lead of more than four points through the opening 10 minutes.
Graduate guard KyKy Tandy then drilled three consecutive shots from beyond the arc to give the FAU a lead that they would not relinquish. A 13-0 run for the Owls, highlighted by Glenn hopping high for a two-hand slam dunk and multiple rejections at the rim on the defensive end, gave the team their first double-digit lead of the evening before they entered the locker room up 46-37.
SECOND HALF
Tandy set the tone with five early points. Soon, it was redshirt junior forward Tre Carroll who heated up with 11 points in the final period on five-for-six shooting.
The Owls built a lead as large as 19 points, leaning on Glenn and freshman center Matas Vokietaitis for scores inside.
