MBB | Owls Soar Past the 49ers for Back-to-Back Road Win

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Florida Atlantic’s men’s basketball team finished their North Carolina road trip 2-0 following a 75-64 victory over Charlotte on Wednesday evening.

The Owls (9-7, 2-1 AAC) leaned on their frontcourt offensively, led by junior forward Baba Miller with his second 20-point outing of the season. The Mallorca, Spain native shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the field in the second half to help FAU pull away with the double-digit win over the 49ers (7-9, 0-3 AAC).

FIRST HALF

Florida Atlantic built an early lead with another strong start on offense, converting 10 of their first 14 shot attempts.

Emphasizing rebounds, the Owls crashed the glass throughout the opening period, winning the board battle versus the 49ers by a 23-11 margin. A tightly contested half saw the Owls enter the locker room with a 35-30 thanks to two straight buckets in the final minute from redshirt junior forward Tre Carroll.

SECOND HALF

The Owls entered the final period swinging and soon found themselves building a lead as large as 14 during a stretch in which FAU’s defense held Charlotte to 1-of-11 from the field. The 49ers ultimately finished the half shooting just 34.4%. Key shots from Miller throughout thwarted off any potential comeback.

Redshirt freshman guard Niccolo Moretti took control of the offense in the final five minutes, scoring 10 points with assistance of smart playmaking from Miller.

  • Carroll had a balanced stat line of 15 points on 7-for-11 shooting while tying his career high in rebounds (nine), assists (three), and steals (two), and setting a career high with three blocks

  • Graduate guard KyKy Tandy has hit a three-pointer in 11 consecutive games and has at least one triple in 15 out of 16 appearances this season
  • The Owls outscored the 49ers off turnovers 17-0

The Owls return to the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena to host UAB (9-7, 2-1 AAC) on Sunday, Jan. 12. Airing on ESPN, the game tips off at 5 p.m. Doors for the general public open at 4 p.m.
