MBB | Owls Host UTSA and USF in Paradise

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic’s men basketball team returns to Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena for a pair of home games. First up is a 7 p.m. matchup against UTSA on Wednesday, Jan. 29, airing on ESPN+, followed by an outing versus in-state foe USF on Sunday, Feb. 2 scheduled for a 2 p.m. tipoff, airing on ESPN2.

The Owls (10-10, 3-4 in American Athletic Conference play) own a 34-3 record when playing at the Elly over the last two seasons, the 25th best home mark in the nation. They will look to build on that against the Roadrunners (9-10, 3-4 AAC) and the Bulls (10-10, 3-4 AAC).

For Sunday’s game against USF, fans are asked to WEAR RED.

ABOUT THE OWLS

  • Head Coach John Jakus is in his first season at the helm of the Owls
  • Since the start of December, Carroll is averaging 16.5 points per game on 53.4% shooting from the field, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists, while recording the first three 20+ point outings of their career. He currently is tied for the team lead at 12.4 points per game
  • Matching Carroll’s scoring numbers is sophomore forward Kaleb Glenn, fresh off his third 20-point performance of the season against North Texas
  • The Owls are 18th nationally in bench ppg (31.5)
  • Redshirt sophomore guard Niccolo Moretti is 20th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio with 72-to-20 (3.13)
  • A pair of Owls recently reached career milestones. Miller scored his 500th point on Jan. 19 against UAB, while in the following game against Tulane, junior guard Leland Walker became the third active player on the roster to record 1,000 career points
  • Graduate guard KyKy Tandy has converted at least one three-point attempt in 19 out of 20 games and leads the team with 45 makes from beyond the arc. Only four players in the conference have more triples than him
  • FAU is the second highest scoring team in the AAC (79.7 ppg) and is second in assists (16.6 apg). Miller leads the conference in blocks per game (1.8) and Walker is fifth in assists per game (4.2)

ABOUT THE ROADRUNNERS

  • Austin Clauch is in his first season at the head of the UTSA program
  • The Roadrunners’ offense runs through senior guard Primo Spears, ranking seventh nationally in points per game (21.1) and leading the team in total assists (71)
  • As a team, UTSA is drilling 9.8 three-pointers per game, best in the AAC and 34th nationally
  • It will be a battle of the offenses between the second-best scoring team in the AAC in the Owls and the third best in the Roadrunners, averaging 79.3 points per game
  • UTSA currently trails the all-time series to the Owls with six losses to 11 wins. Their previous matchup on Jan. 21, 2024 saw Florida Atlantic record 112 points, their third-highest scoring performance in program history

ABOUT THE BULLS

  • Ben Fletcher is currently leading the team as the interim head coach
  • Sophomore guard Jayden Reid leads the Bulls in scoring (12.4 ppg) and assists (74)
  • USF is a top five scoring defense in the AAC, allowing 73.0 points per game
  • South Florida scores fast, ranking 20th in the nation with 14.85 fastbreak points per game
  • The Bulls own a 15-2 record over the Owls. In their last meeting on Feb. 18, 2024, FAU climbed their way back from 25-point deficit with eight minutes remaining before falling to the eventual AAC regular season champions by four

TICKETS

Florida Atlantic has announced that a limited number of tickets are now on sale for Wednesday and Sunday’s matchups. Limited tickets available are based on those returned by the visiting team and can be purchased by visiting Ticketmaster or by calling by calling 1-866-FAU-OWLS. Tickets are $100 in the lower bowl and $50 in the upper arena.

UP NEXT

Following the week’s slate of games, Florida Atlantic will enjoy six days off before heading to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane (9-11, 3-4 AAC) on Saturday, Feb. 8. The matchup will air on ESPNU and tip off at 12 p.m. EST.
