BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic’s men’s basketball team came up short in a 75-68 loss to Wichita State on Thursday night at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
The Owls (15-11, 8-5 AAC) battled back from a 14-point deficit and made timely three-pointers to keep the matchup against the Shockers (16-10, 6-7 AAC) within reach before being put away by the free throw game.
FIRST HALF
Redshirt sophomore guard Niccolo Moretti provided an early spark plug for the team with five straight points as part of a 9-2 run to tie the game at 12. The Owls took their first lead off a dunk and free throw from sophomore forward Kaleb Glenn before the Shockers built a double-digit one of their own.
Florida Atlantic closed the gap from down 14 points to down eight, entering the locker room trailing 34-26.
SECOND HALF
The Owls offense ignited with highlight plays at the rim from the frontcourt of Glenn, redshirt junior forward Tre Carroll, and junior forward Baba Miller.
An aggressive Glenn move to the hoop gave the Owls their first lead of the second half to go up 48-47 with 12 minutes remaining. The Shockers responded by building a seven-point lead, but FAU continued the back-and-forth to tie it up with seven minutes remaining.
Triples from Carroll and redshirt senior guard Ken Evans Jr. in the final minute gave the Owls 10 on the night, keeping the game within one possession until the closing seconds.
