BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic’s men’s basketball team (24-7, 14-4 AAC) wrapped up their regular season with a 92-84 win over Memphis (22-9, 11-7 AAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
In their final home games, senior guards Jalen Gaffney, Bryan Greenlee, and Brandon Weatherspoon went out in style, combining for 36 points to help the Owls win their 13th straight game at the Elly, 31st out of their last 32 games. Greenlee led the trio with a season high 21 points.
Behind another stellar showing from junior center Vlad Goldin, scoring 21 points and collecting 12 rebounds, the Owls were a physical force to be reckoned with on both sides of the ball.
FIRST HALF
The Tigers defense continued to be no match for Goldin in the paint, scoring 15 points on 7-for-8 shooting.
Contributions came from all three seniors in the opening frame: Gaffney found his way to the hoop with an acrobatic layup. Weatherspoon scored four, including his signature slam off a deflected pass, and Bryan Greenlee racked up eight points, including a fadeaway buzzer beater to send the Owls to the locker room up 41-35.
SECOND HALF
A triple from Weatherspoon just 30 seconds in opened up a nine-point lead. Redshirt sophomore guard Nick Boyd found junior guard Alijah Martin, lobbing it up for the soaring slam dunk to put the Tigers in a double-digit deficit.
It was all Owls the rest of the way, holding the lead for the entire second half.
