MBB | Owls Comeback Falls Short Against UAB

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic’s men’s basketball team fell to UAB by a score of 81-76 on Sunday afternoon at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.

A matchup between the top two scoring teams in the American Athletic Conference came down to the final minute The Owls stormed back from a double-digit deficit to take a lead with three minutes remaining. Redshirt junior forward Tre Carroll was relentless on both ends of the floor in the comeback, ultimately leading the team with 20 points.

With the loss to the Blazers (10-7, 3-1 AAC), the Owls fall to 9-7, 2-2 AAC on the season.

FIRST HALF

The Owls took their first lead of the game early on with a 12-0 run on back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore forward Kaleb Glenn and graduate guard KyKy Tandy. It was a successful opening 20 minutes from beyond the arc with the team shooting 50%.

Glenn and Tandy combined for 20 of FAU’s 35 first half points as they entered the locker room down by five.

SECOND HALF

Trailing by 12 with 13 minutes remaining, the Owls staged a comeback by attacking the paint, which became responsible for 26 of their 41 points in the final half.

Florida Atlantic tied it up five times in the last seven minutes, with the Owls taking advantage of second-chance opportunities and feeding off the energy from the Elly crowd. The continued aggressiveness inside allowed FAU to get to the free throw line to take a 75-73 lead with 2:58 left on the clock as Carroll sunk both attempts. The Owls came up just short with the Blazers finding scores inside of their own to take back the advantage.

  • Four Owls recorded double-digit scoring outings: Carroll (20), Tandy (14), Glenn (13) and Miller (10)

The Owls will travel to New Orleans to take on Tulane (9-8, 3-1 AAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Tipping off at 7 p.m., the matchup will air on ESPN+. Florida Atlantic’s next home game at the Elly is set for Sunday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. against Rice (11-6, 2-2 AAC)
