MBB: Bulls Fall to Rhode Island in Bubbleville Opener

UNCASVILLE, Conn., NOV. 11, 2020 – Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference First Team selection Fatts Russell scored 15 points and had four rebounds to lead Rhode Island to an 84-68 victory against USF Saturday afternoon at the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament from Mohegan Sun Arena.

Jalen Carey added 12 points and a team-best five rebounds as the Rams received 37 points off the bench.

USF senior David Collins (Youngstown, Ohio) finished with a game-high 16 points to go along with four assists and three steals, while freshman Caleb Murphy (Youngstown, Ohio) had a career-best 15 points and five rebounds.

Alexis Yetna (Paris) and Michael Durr (Atlanta) each added 10 points and combined for 13 rebounds for the Bulls.

Rhode Island (1-2) built a 14-3 lead midway through the first half and held the Bulls to one field goal over the first 9:43. USF finished the first half with six field goals, shot 21.4 percent from the field and trailed by 16 at halftime.

USF cut the deficit to 10 with 7:28 remaining in the second half on a three-pointer from Yetna, but the Rams responded with five unanswered points to go ahead 68-53 with just under six minutes left.

• David Collins had three steals and moved into fourth place on The American all-time steals list.    
• Justin Brown made all five of his free throw attempts and has now made 20 consecutive free throws.
