Hong Kong (February 4, 2024) – Inter Miami CF earned a 1-4 victory over the Hong Kong Team at a packed Hong Kong Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The preseason match saw Robert Taylor, Lawson Sunderland, Leonardo Campana and Ryan Sailor score to claim the win.
CJ dos Santos started in goal; DeAndre Yedlin, Tomás Aviles, Sergii Kryvtsov, and Noah Allen started in defense; Gregore, David Ruiz and Sunderland lined up in midfield; Julian Gressel and Taylor started on the wings alongside striker Campana.
The thrilling matchup saw a lively performance from Taylor in the first half punctuated by a stellar goal in the 40th minute; the winger feinted to his left from the corner of the box, took one touch to his right to beat a defender, and fired a curling strike past the goalkeeper to open the scoring.
The Hong Kong Team equalized just before halftime, but a trio of second-half goals from Inter Miami resulted in victory for the visitors. First, Campana played substitute Ryan Sailor in behind the defense following a reset after a corner, and Sunderland latched onto the square pass from the defender and calmly finished to reclaim the lead in the 50th minute. Just six minutes later, clever buildup play, including a timely dummy, resulted in Campana receiving a pass in the box from Sunderland and scoring to make it 1-3. Then, the final goal was scored in the 85th minute when Taylor whipped in a precise corner delivery to Sailor at the near post, who flicked a header back off the far post and into the net to finalize proceedings with a 1-4 scoreline.
Next Inter Miami will travel to Japan for its final fixture of its international tour, arriving in Tokyo to take on Vissel Kobe on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at the Japan National Stadium.
