MARLINS SIGN RIGHT-HANDED PITCHER CHRIS PADDACK TO A ONE-YEAR MAJOR LEAGUE CONTRACT

MIAMI — The Miami Marlins today announced the club has signed right-handed pitcher Chris Paddack to a one-year Major League contract. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Ronny Henriquez has been placed on the 60-day IL (right elbow surgery).

Paddack, 30, split the 2025 season between Minnesota and Detroit, producing a 5-12 record and 5.35 ERA (94 ER/158.0 IP) in a career-high 33 games and 28 starts with 112 strikeouts to 37 walks. The 6-foot-5 right-hander, who also surpassed his career high in innings pitched (previously, 140.2 IP during his rookie season with San Diego in 2019), posted a 5.5 walk pct. over the course of the season, ranking in the 89th percentile of Major League pitchers per Baseball Savant. He also ranked in Savant’s 92nd percentile in extension (7.0) and chase percentage (31.7). Paddack was acquired by Detroit from Minnesota on July 28, 2025, ahead of the trade deadline.

The Austin, Texas, native has tallied a career 32-36 mark with a 4.64 ERA (300 ER/581.2 IP), 581 hits (98 home runs), 126 walks, and 529 strikeouts over parts of seven Major League seasons with San Diego (2019-21), Minnesota (2022-25), and Detroit (2025). Since his Major League debut with the Padres on March 31, 2019, his 5.2 walk percentage ranks sixth among MLB starters with at least 500.0 innings pitched, trailing only George Kirby (3.6), Zack Greinke (4.2), Zach Eflin (4.6), Miles Mikolas (4.6), and Jacob deGrom (5.0).

Originally selected by Miami in the eighth round (236th overall) of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Cedar Park High School (Texas), Paddack was traded to San Diego in exchange for Fernando Rodney in June 2016.

The Texas A&M commit made just three appearances for the Padres before undergoing “Tommy John” surgery, causing him to miss the remainder of the season and all of 2017. His return in 2018 featured multiple honors including Organization All-Star and Best Starting Pitcher by MiLB.com, earning him a spot on the 2019 Opening Day roster where he eventually earned a spot on Baseball America’s Major League All-Rookie Team.

The Miami Marlins’ 2026 regular season begins with Opening Day under the lights on Friday, March 27, against the Colorado Rockies at 7:10 p.m. Tickets are available at Marlins.com/tickets
