BIRMINGHAM – UAB Women’s Soccer head coach Lisa Mann has announced that Mark Hiller will serve as the Blazers’ associate head coach.
“I am delighted Mark will be joining our UAB Women’s Soccer staff,” said Mann. “Mark brings with him a wealth of experience and will be a huge asset for our program. He is not only a top-quality coach and recruiter, but also the type of person we want coaching our student-athletes and representing our program.”
Hiller comes to the Magic City after spending the last three seasons as head coach at Delta State where he had a record of 26-14-7. In this time with the Lady Statesmen, he coached a pair of Gulf South All-Conference players.
In 2022, Delta State broke the school record for wins in a season, posting 10 victories. The Lady Statesmen hosted a GSC playoff game for the second season in a row after posting a 7-4-2 record in league play.
The year prior, DSU turned in its most successful conference season in program history, posting an 8-3-2 mark in Gulf South Conference play. The Lady Statesmen also hosted a home GSC playoff game for the first in school history as the tournament’s No. 3 seed in 2021 and a No. 7 rank in the region.
Hiller’s first season with the Lady Statesmen was in 2020, a season that saw the GSC play a shortened schedule and a Spring Championship Series tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This marked the second time the program made the GSC postseason. Hiller’s squad posted an 8-1-2 overall record.
Delta State was ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll in 2020-21, achieving a ranking of No. 19 in the country. Hiller and his staff were recognized as the United Soccer Coaches’ South Regional Coaching Staff of the Year in 2020-21. The squad also opened the 2021-22 season ranked No. 19 in the preseason poll.
Hiller came to Delta State from the Cajun Rush Soccer Club in Lafayette, La., where he served as the head coach of the men’s semi-pro team and was also the College Advisory Program (CAP) Director. Hiller also served as head coach of the St. Thomas More High School boy’s soccer team in Lafayette, leading the team to a 39-7-3 record and appearances in the state championships in two seasons.
Before his time with the Rush, Hiller served as an assistant coach at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, alongside Mann. Hiller initially joined the Ragin’ Cajun staff as a graduate assistant before being promoted to a full-time assistant coach.
Hiller holds a United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma, has his National “B” license from the United States Soccer Federation (National “B), and also holds Level I, II, and III diplomas from the United Soccer Coaches in Goalkeeping.
Hiller played at NCAA Division I institution Oakland University before transferring to Ashford University (NAIA) in Clinton, Iowa. While there, Hiller helped lead the Saints to an NAIA National Elite 8 and Final Four Appearance. He was a team captain for the squad and was also named to the All-Tournament team during both the conference and national tournaments.
Additionally, he has also played semi-professional soccer in various domestic leagues for both the West Texas Sockers in the PDL and the Quad City Eagles in the NPSL.
Hiller earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Business Administration from Ashford University in 2014 and a Masters of Business Administration from UL-Lafayette in 2017.
