8/6/2024 | Men’s Soccer BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men’s soccer stepped on the practice field for the first time on Tuesday to begin its preseason. The Owls are just 16 days from opening the 2024 campaign versus Creighton in Omaha, Neb. Tuesday consisted of a morning and a late afternoon session. First on the agenda was the fitness test, commonly known as the “beep test.” The beep test is conducted by continuously running between two ends that face each other at about 21 yards apart. Three successive beeps sound to start the test and are also sounded at the start of each new level. To start the test, the beep test audio program will indicate that the test will begin shortly, and when you hear the three quick successive beeps, you start your first shuttle run. The time permitted for each shuttle run gets progressively shorter at each level. As a result, an increasing number of players drop out with each beep. On Tuesday, after seven levels and nearly 100 shuttle runs, the last man standing was junior midfielder Matthew Alfred. Senior Arthur Widiez finished a close second. The afternoon session featured a controlled scrimmage on the FAU Soccer Stadium field.
