BOCA RATON, Fla. – A two-hour weather delay prior to kickoff could not deter Florida Atlantic men’s soccer from another clean sheet victory on Sunday night. The Owls scored a goal on both sides of halftime and held Omaha to two shots on goal in a 2-0 win. After a two-assist performance in the season opener on Thursday, Aboubacar Traore registered his first goal of the season to open the scoring in the 15th minute. Traore worked into way into the left side of the Omaha penalty area, sidestepped a defender, and let rip with a left-footed strike that found the top corner.
Mamadou Diarra doubled the lead in the 73rd minute. Traore played fullback Josh Ainge into the penalty area, and Ainge delivered a perfect low cross into the path of Diarra, who finished it off for his second goal of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Alfred Mikkelsen needed to make just two saves to record his second clean sheet in as many games. The Owls attempted 16 shots compared to four for the Mavericks.
