WGCA Top-25 poll

Coral Springs, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s golf team has moved into a tie for eighth in the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Division II Coaches Poll.  This is the third consecutive poll the Fighting Knights have moved up since Oct. 22, 2018.

With a victory and two runner-up finishes in the spring, the Blue and White have been on a tear.  This is the most successful three-tournament run for Lynn since it won the HBU Husky Invite and placed second in both the Sunshine State Conference Championship and the NCAA Super Regional in 2015.

Dallas Baptist holds onto the top-ranking, just ahead of No. 2 Barry, who jumped two positions.  Nova Southeastern, the University of Indianapolis and West Texas A&M round out the top-five.  Arkansas Tech (six), Cal-State San Marcos (seven) are ahead of Lynn, Rollins (T-eighth) and Florida Tech in the top-10.

The tandem of Helen Kreuzer and Kristina Ortiz have brought the squad into the limelight as the they have combined for 11 top-10 finishes, which includes one individual victory and one runner-up performance.  Their success has also not been seen since 2014-15 when Jessica Bradley and Samantha Smolen combined for 18 top-10s.

Lynn’s remaining starting contingent, Matilda Wahren, Cristina Gutierrez and Serena Nguyen, have also been instrumental in the team’s success.  All three are playing their best golf as the team heads into the stretch run.

Up next for the Fighting Knights is the Barry Women’s Invitational, where they have twice finished as the runner-up (2009 & ’10).  Ortiz also set the 54-hole program record and won her first career tournament there.  Lynn begins play on Monday, March 25, at Don Shula’s Resort and Golf Club in Miami Lakes, Fla.
