BOCA RATON, Fla. – Last Saturday was International Coastal Cleanup Day and Lynn University women’s lacrosse got to work at Red Reef Park in Boca Raton. On Sunday they got in some conditioning and helped raise money for families with cancer patients all at the same time when they ran in the HeadStrong 5K event.
“This was a great opportunity for our team to come together and bond while giving back to causes that are meaningful to our players,” said Lynn Women’s Lacrosse head coach Mindy Richmond. “Not only were we able to help clean up our local beaches, but we also were able to represent an amazing organization that supports families who are struggling with cancer. The HeadStrong Foundation is very well known in the lacrosse community and we were proud to be the only lacrosse team from the area to participate in the foundation’s inaugural event in South Florida.”
International Coastal Cleanup Day is put on by the Ocean Conservancy with the goal of fighting for trash-free seas.
Headstrong is an organization that was founded by a pair of brothers who played college lacrosse and works to provide housing and financial relief to families who are battling cancer.
