Men’s Golf
NCAA South/Southeast Regional
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The defending NCAA Division II National Championship Lynn University men’s golf team will get the chance to defend its crown following the announcement by the NCAA of the 2019 men’s golf tournament field. This is the 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance for the Fighting Knights.
The South/Southeast Regional begins on Thursday, May 9, at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The top-seven teams from the 20-team field advance to the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship hosted at the Resort at Glades Springs in Daniels, W. Va. From Monday, May 20, thru, Friday, May 24.
Lynn is ranked No. 2 in the South/Southeast Region and the country, behind top-ranked Barry and ahead of West Florida (No. 3). Nova Southeastern (6th), Florida Southern (7th), Florida Tech (8th), Saint Leo (17th), Rollins (19th), Valodsta State (25th) and Albany State are the remaining South Region institutions. Lincoln Memorial holds the top-seed in the Southeast followed by Young Harris (11th), Carson-Newman (15th), Limestone (14th), Columbus State, Clayton State, South Carolina Aiken (23rd), Queens, Flagler and North Greenville. Thirteen of the top-25 teams in the nation hail from the South/Southeast region.
The Blue and White have won the South/Southeast Regional twice, the last coming at Mission Inn in 2016. Andy Walker will look to become the third head coach in program history to win the regional having joined the previous two (Chris Greenwood and Andrew Danna) in reaching the NCAA Tournament in each of their first campaigns.
Lynn boasts an experienced squad as three members from the national championship team a year ago remain, including recently announced First and Second Team All-Sunshine State Conference selections Toto Gana and Jorge Villar, as well as national championship hero Carlos Bustos. Coupled with two of the top freshmen in the nation, All-SSC honoree Giovanni Manzoni and Agustin Errazuriz, and the Fighting Knights will be a tough opponent.
