Leonor Medeiros and Alyssa Montgomery Named to WGCA Academic All-American Team

The Bulls have each earned the honor for the third time.

Junior Leonor Medeiros and graduate transfer Alyssa Montgomery, members of the record-setting 2023-24 women’s golf team, have been named to the 2023-24 WGCA All-American Scholar Team that was announced today.

Medeiros and Montgomery, who also earned CSC Academic All-District honors, were each named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team for the third time. Medeiros was a WGCA All-American Scholar in 2021-22 and 2022-23. Montgomery was named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team in 2019-20, and 2021-22 while at Virginia Tech.

In order to be selected to the All-American Scholar team, players must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, be an amateur and on the team’s roster through the conclusion of the team’s season and have played in 50% of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team’s conference championship.

Junior Medeiros (So./Palmela, Portugal) recorded three top-10 finishes, four top-25 finishes and competed in all 11 events for the Bulls in 2023-24. She shot par or better in 12 rounds and shot a season-low 68 in the second round of the Dale McNamara Invitational. Her best finish was fifth place at the Badger Invitational.

Graduate transfer Montgomery (Knoxville, Ten.). played in each of the Bulls 11 events and finished the 2023-24 season with the second-lowest scoring average on the team at 72.82. Montgomery shot six rounds in the 60’s and posted 12 rounds of par or better. She finished in the top-10 twice, at the AAC Championship and Dale McNamara Invitational, and in the top-25 four times.

In the record-setting 2023-24 campaign, the Bulls won three times and finished in the top four in nine of 10 events. The three wins are the most in a season since four 2011-12. USF finished third in the American Athletic Conference Championship, which equals the best finish in the tournament in program history. In 2022-23 and 2023-24, the Bulls played in back-to-back NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2001-02. Senior standout Melanie Green, the AAC Conference Player of the Year in 2023-24, an all-conference performer in each of her four seasons, was named to the WGCA 2023-24 Division I All-American second team. Green qualified for the 2022 NCAA Regional as an individual and was named a 2023 All-American Honorable Mention. Green and the Bulls reached the NCAA Regional as a team in 2023, marking the program’s first postseason appearance in 11 years.
