Lamar Jackson, Cody Barton & Charlie Jones Named Week 7 AFC Players of the Week

NEW YORK — Oct. 23, 2024 — Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Denver Broncos linebacker Cody Barton and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Charlie Jones are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for Week 7 (October 17, 20-21).

OFFENSE: QB LAMAR JACKSON, BALTIMORE RAVENS

  • Jackson completed 17 of 22 pass attempts (77.3 percent) for 281 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions for a 158.1 rating and added 52 rushing yards in Baltimore’s 41-31 Week 7 win at Tampa Bay. There have been five games in NFL history in which a player has recorded at least five touchdown passes and 50 rushing yards – Jackson has three of them.
  • This is the 12th-career Player of the Week award and second this season for Jackson, tying kicker Justin Tucker for the most in franchise history:
    • 2019: Weeks 1, 9, 10, 12, 15
    • 2020: Weeks 1, 14
    • 2021: Week 5
    • 2023: Weeks 7, 17
    • 2024: Weeks 5, 7
  • Since entering the NFL in 2018, Jackson’s 12 Player of the Week awards are the second-most in the NFL, trailing only Josh Allen (13).

DEFENSE: LB CODY BARTON, DENVER BRONCOS

  • Barton recorded eight tackles, one pass defensed, one forced fumble and a 52-yard fumble-return touchdown in Denver’s 33-10 Week 7 win at New Orleans. Barton was the only AFC player to score a defensive touchdown in Week 7 and is the first player since Week 15, 2022 (Kayvon Thibodeaux) with at least eight tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble-return touchdown in a game.
  • This is Barton’s first-career Player of the Week award, becoming the second Broncos linebacker to earn the honor in the past 10 seasons (2015-24), joining Von Miller.
  • Barton becomes the fifth former University of Utah player to win a Defensive Player of the Week award, joining Anthony Davis (Week 10, 1997), Andre Dyson (Week 13, 2005), Star Lotulelei (Week 8, 2016) and Eric Weddle (Week 13, 2017).

SPECIAL TEAMS: WR CHARLIE JONES, CINCINNATI BENGALS

  • Jones returned the opening dynamic kickoff for a 100-yard touchdown and also recorded 39 punt return yards in Cincinnati’s 21-14 Week 7 win at Cleveland. Jones was the only player to score on a kickoff in Week 7 and is the first player since Week 17, 2017 (Tyler Lockett) to return a kickoff for a touchdown and have at least 25 punt return yards.
  • This is Jones’ first-career Player of the Week award. He becomes the first Bengals wide receiver to win Special Teams Player of the Week since Brandon Tate in Week 8, 2011.
  •  Jones becomes the fourth former Purdue player to win a Special Teams Player of the Week award, joining Mel Gray (two-time winner), Bernard Pollard and Pro Football Hall of Famer Rod Woodson.
