The Las Vegas Raiders (3-5) came into the Motor City looking to have a win streak. The Lions would have nothing to do with that. They were struggling to find the endzone to begin the game. But had an explosion that started with late 2nd round strike from Goff to ROTY candidate TE Sam LaPorta.
The Lions Defense was able to overcome turnovers, penalties, and holding the Raiders to 157 total yards. Josh Jacobs had 60 yards and a TD. Top 10 WR Devonta Adams had 1 catch. No TDs on 7 targets. His lowest catch rate in any game in his career (14%). The defense rebounded with 6 sacks versus the Raiders. Making Jimmy G look pedestrian.
12th pick in this year’s draft, Jahmyr Gibbs had 26 carries for 152 yards and a TD. That should quell all the positional value talk. And also why they drafted him at 12.
Kerby Joseph returned to playing his strongest position in the backfield. Single High Safety in coverage. It worked. He picked off Jimmy G in the End Zone on a pass intended for Devonta Adams.
We do still have to clean up the turnovers and penalties on offense. But Sewell finally had a laundry free day, not drawing one penalty. The interior Oline played this way for the first time. LG Kayode Awosika, C Graham Glasgow, and Rookie RG Colby Sorsdal. They played admirably. Limited the pass rush of Maxx Crosby, and Jerry Tillery. Making holes for Jahmyr Gibbs he could have drove a truck through. Overall and amazing game.
Jared Goff Stat Line 26/37 272 yards 1 TD 1 INT
Brodric Martin 96th 3rd round pick overall. But saw limited snaps. What little rushing success Josh Jacobs had was with Benito (Burrito) Jones at DT. I call him burrito because he gets wrapped up by guards and centers often and only makes a play once every 50 snaps on defense.
The End Result. The Detroit Lions provided a dominating win in their 5th straight Primetime game since Dan Campbell took over as coach.
