Jaguars vs. Jets Postgame Quotes: Jets DL Leonard Williams

(On the defense struggling to get off the field on third down) “That’s been our Achilles heel for the whole season, has been getting off the field on third down. We’ve been trying to put a lot of emphasis on getting off the field on third down. We do a good job on first and second. Besides that big explosive run, I think we did a good job on holding them on the run plays and besides the quarterback got a few scrambles. I think that’s what it was. Sometimes on third down the quarterback would scramble and get the first down. And sometimes by not getting to him fast enough and him being able to create time scrambling, a receiver would get open and that just seemed to be what happened on third down.”

(On trade speculation) “I thought about it obviously. It’s something that’s being talked about but at the same time I can’t let it hinder my play on the field. I can’t let it affect anything that I can control myself. It’s something that’s out of my control and it happens a lot more now in this league and you see trades occur way more often. I try to take my emotions out of it and let what happens happen.”

(On what Head Coach Adam Gase said to the team following the game) “He just said that it’s not the time to quit. It’s not like the league is going to give us the rest of the season off and just take a break. We still have half a season to go and we can either come together and keep fighting or we can roll over and quit. Obviously, we’re not going to try to quit and we’re going to try to stick together and this is the time to come together.”
